Project overview
This project dealt with five separate insurance law problem areas. These are:
- the rule of disclosure of relevant facts;
- insurers of provisions requiring notification of claims within certain time limits;
- the unfair use of provisions excluding liability in certain circumstances where the risk of loss is increased;
- the Fires Prevention (Metropolis) Act s 83; and
- third parties.

Government response
The Commission’s key recommendations were included in the Commission's later report Life Insurance (NZLC R87, 2004). Some recommendations from R87 were reflected in the Insurance (Prudential Supervision) Act 2010.
There was no requirement for the Government to present a formal response to Commission reports before April 2009.
